Our ophthalmology (eye) referral service is headed by senior vet and veterinary ophthalmologist Kathy Ward BVSc (Hons) CertVOphthal MRCVS. Kathy is a freelance ophthalmologist and has worked solely with eyes for 23 years and has been one of CityVets team of vets with specialist qualifications for eight years. Kathy provides a regular clinic, by appointment, on Tuesdays at the CityVets St Thomas or Heavitree surgeries and is otherwise available for urgent or emergency consultations or advice.
At virtually every CityVets routine consultation and every health examination, your pet’s eyes will be checked. If you have any concerns about your pet’s eyes, such as redness, soreness, changes in colour, discharge or irritation then please do not hesitate to book an eye appointment with one our vets. Many eye conditions are easily treatable and early intervention can be beneficial, quickly relieve discomfort and reduce the risk of further deterioration or complications.
More serious, persistent or unusual eye conditions will be referred to Kathy, for further assessment and management.
Often with the aid of a powerful operating microscope we can perform complex eye surgery, as well as all routine eye surgery for conditions such as entropion, cherry eye, eyelid masses and for the treatment of corneal ulcers and eye trauma.
